who we are
About
RIMA is an independent, informal platform by and for the people in the regions.
Independent, community-led platform rooted in anti-colonial, democratic, gender-sensitive principles.
Strengthens communities’ agency to influence Chinese-financed infrastructure toward climate justice.
Documents safeguarding violations, pressures banks, and amplifies regional voices.
Emerged to address urgent social, environmental, and climate risks.
Supports sustainable infrastructure, indigenous rights, and environmental justice.
RIMA’s primary mission is to enhance the agency and bargaining power of communities to assert Chinese public and private entities' responsibility to deliver climate justice and prevent environmental and social harm through their investments. We bundle energies, coordinate action, pool knowledge and share experiences and strategies. RIMA closely coordinates with existing China-related networks. RIMA's overall goal is to support local communities and their livelihoods as well as combat climate change and advocate for clean non-fossil energy.
1. RIMA functions as an informal, independent, anti-colonial, and democratic platform that monitors Chinese stakeholders and advocates for human rights in large infrastructure projects.
2. RIMA serves a critical role by bringing together activists from across the world around the topics of just transition and regional cooperation. This regional solidarity is vital for monitoring cross-border energy corridors and shared ecosystems threatened by infrastructure development.
3. RIMA closes the knowledge and capacity gap on China’s expanding role as investor in the Global South.
4. Capacity-building workshops on Chinese institutions
Building capacity through dialogue, mutual learning and strategy development. Learning more about Chinese government commitments on green, inclusive investment and their implementation.
- Foster new green financing which follows the principles of ILO 169 FPIC and Do No Harm
- Create stronger information and data transparency on investments and climate impacts.
5. We collaborate with institutions that provide us with robust analyses of Chinese investments.
